Radio Biafra founder, Nnamdi Kanu, has tendered an apology to President Muhamadu Buhari for referring to him as a terrorist, paedophile and evil in some of his broadcasts,Punch reports.
He extended the apology to former president Goodluck Jonathan, and Igbo elders for “some uncomplimentary things” he said about them.
He stated this in a statement which he made to the Department of State Service (DSS) on October 23.
“Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil and a pedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that, I unreservedly apologize and will be doing so in a private letter to the President," Kanu, 48, said.
“Before PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) there was the administration of Good-luck Jonathan. I also said uncomplimentary things about him and Igbo elders as well, which I now recognize should not have happened because it is un-African to be rude or insolent to elders.
“All I was trying to do is to draw attention to the problems afflicting society and something done about them.”
Kanu who confirmed founding the Indigenous People of Biafra, however reiterated his commitment and intention to actualize Biafra, stating that agenda is line with the United Nations Charter on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ratified by African countries, including Nigeria.
Kanu and two others are facing trial on a six-count charge of treason, unlawful possession of firearms and other offences bordering on their agitation for secession ‎of the Republic of Biafra from Nigeria.

In Lagos: Man who raped, impregnated niece, arrested over attempted rape of step daughter

Father who raped daughter now in prison

News reports have revealed that a Lagos hotel owner is being investigated over the attempted rape of his step daughter after allegedly raping and impregnating his niece.

The news reports reveal that the suspect identified as Kulajola, who runs Christopher hotels situated on Agor road in Isolo, Lagos State, is now being investigated for the attempted rape of his stepdaughter, Titi (not real name).
The saddening news comes at Kujaola allegedly raped his niece,Lola, leaving her 8 months pregnant, which is said to have prompted the report of both cases by his wife, identified as Ndidi.
Punch Metro reports that Ndidi reported both cases to the police, which led to Kulajolu's arrest and arraignment before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court.
The father of six is accused of raping his niece, Lola on three occasions at the hotel he runs and once at her mother's house on Majekodunmi Street, Meiran, threatening to kill her if she revealed the truth.
Correspondents reveal that Lola had gone to her uncle's hotel following a dispute with her father and fear of being beaten, when the suspect had sneaked into the room he offered her for the night, raping her.
Lola revealed saying:
“I offended my father and fled home because he wanted to beat me. I went to my uncle’s hotel and slept there that night. While I was sleeping, he came in and raped me. He warned me not to tell anybody and threatened that if I did, he would kill me.”
The rape incident which had taken place in Lola's mother's home had reportedly occurred while her sister had been hospitalised, keeping her mother busy and away from home.
“My ailing sister was hospitalised and my mother was staying with her at a hospital. He (Kulajolu) came to pass the night in our house. In the night, he came to my room, covered my mouth and raped me again. He threatened me that he would kill me if I told anybody. He slept with me three times. I am now eight months pregnant.”
Lola's case is reportedly the reason behind the lodging of the complaint against the suspect who had reportedly tried to rape his step daughter.
Ndidi revealed that Kulajolu had been about to rape 14-year-old Titi when he had been caught.
Relating the incident, Titi said:
“Somebody came inside my room, switched off the light and slept on me. I woke up and discovered that the person had removed his clothes. I raised the alarm and everybody woke up and started searching the house to know the person. My sister noticed that somebody was hiding behind the cotton in the living room. We opened it and found my stepfather there. I broke into tears. When my mother asked him why he attempted to rape me, he started behaving as if he was drunk.”
The suspect who has vehemently denied the claims, said:
“After the death of my brother, around November 2015, her (Lola’s) stepmother came to me and told me that she was pregnant. She said the family of the boy responsible for her pregnancy had come and they had discussed. I did not rape her and was not responsible for the pregnancy.”
Kulajolu has now been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court on two counts bordering on rape and sexual assault.

I can get the Super Eagles flying again to the next W/Cup - former coach Bonfrere Jo cries out for his job

Bonfrere Jo, known for leading Nigeria to the Atlanta'96 Olympics gold medal as well as the 2000 African Nations Cup final has stated he knows how to revive the fortunes of the Super Eagles if he's handed the coaching role on a permanent basis. Sunday Oliseh shockingly resigned from his position as head coach two weeks ago and Samson Siasia alongside a team of ex-internationals has been put in temporary charge of the Super Eagles.

But Bonfrere, brought to the country by Dutchman Clemens Westerhof says most coaches that have coached Nigeria don't know how to handle the job hence their failure rate, saying only Stephen Keshi could handle the pressure of the Super Eagles job.

I know Nigeria very well; I worked there for a long time to understand the players' and the officials' thought processes. I understand that Nigerian players like to play football and that was why I worked very well with the players. If you don't understand the players, their mentality, then it will be very difficult for any coach to work with them and get the best from them.'' He said to CompleteSportsNigeria.
''Your local coaches don't always succeed because you have too many people who put pressure on them and again  international football is beyond the local coach.''

I'm interested of course (in the job), because I enjoyed working in Nigeria. it's because you have a whole lot of good players with technique, who love to work very hard and always want to play. The most important thing, as a foreign coach, I have to teach the players how to play good football. Certainly, I'm interested (in coming back to Nigeria as Super Eagles coach). Of course, I would like to go with Nigeria to the African Cup of Nations; I would like to go with the Super Eagles to the World Cup in Russia 2018.
Before you work at that level (of being a coach) and succeed you must first of all have the experience. Oliseh did not have that, so it was going to be very difficult.
''It is the duty of the coach to build a strong squad, identify those he needs to get the job done and bring them along. In this case, the players and his backroom staff or his assistants. What he thinks will give him result is what he would like to do. The important thing is the success of the team and Nigeria and not only that of the coach.''
''It is difficult for the local coaches to coach Super Eagles because they don't have experience in international football outside Africa. They have their coaching experience from inside Nigeria, not outside, so it is very difficult for the local coaches to handle teams successfully. In Africa, if you have local coaches in your teams, it's likely there's going to be no result, but with foreign coaches, you have more chances of getting success.''
''Nigeria have won the Nations Cup three times, one by Keshi. Who won the other two, Nigerian coaches or foreign? My position is foreign coaches are better in position to win than local coaches.''

Pope Francis: says Donald Trump ‘not a Christian’

Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump cannot claim to be a Christian, Pope Francis said Thursday, after the billionaire vowed to build a border wall to keep out immigrants.
“Anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian,” the pontiff told journalists during his return journey from a trip to Mexico in response to a question about Trump’s anti-immigrant stance.
“Vote, don’t vote, I won’t meddle. But I simply say, if he says these things, this man is not a Christian,” he said.
His remarks drew swift condemnation from the outspoken Republican presidential candidate, who described them as “disgraceful”.
Trump has gained in popularity by claiming Mexico is sending criminals and rapists over to the United States, and last week he accused the pope of visiting the border between the two countries at the bidding of the Mexican government.
“Am I an instrument of the Mexican government? I leave that to your judgement, to the people to judge,” Francis said.
Trump, the brash real estate tycoon from New York, has promised to end illegal immigration by building a wall along the Mexican border.
His first TV ad, which was unveiled on Monday, uses footage that shows migrants fleeing Morocco to the tiny Spanish enclave of Melilla in 2014.
The Mexican-US border stretches more than 3,100 kilometres (1,950 miles), but only around a third is marked by high-security fencing.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best… They’re sending people that have lots of problems… They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people,” he said in June.

Dogara Yakubu.

The statement said Dogara made the statement when he received unemployed Aeronautic Engineers and Pilots from Bauchi State who paid him a courtesy visit.
He said that instead of the blaming the APC-led government, the people who brought Nigeria to its current state should be blamed.
Dogara said that the Buhari-led government was working hard to sanitise the system, adding that it would take some time to achieve the objective.
"You know that we are facing challenges in the country at the moment.
"Even though people do not want to talk about on the ground that we campaigned that we are going to fix the country,’’he said.

"Investment in education, skills and knowledge is never a wasted investment,’’ he said and expressed optimism in the ability of the government to reduce unemployment in the country.
"Don't despair because no training is wasted; but it is our responsibility to open the private sector for job opportunities,’’ he said.
He urged Nigerians to join hands with the government to sanitise the system to enable it create job opportunities, especially for the youth.
"If youths are not employed, it will be a disservice to the society as well as discouragement to the graduates, ’’he said.

Curency:Naira falls to N345/$ in parallel market

Bayelsa Governorship election debate (3)

LAGOS — The naira, yesterday, suffered its biggest daily depreciation against the  dollar  as it exchanged for N345 to a dollar in the parallel market. This represents N20 depreciation when compared with the closing exchange rate of N325 per dollar in the market on Friday. But the naira was relatively stable at the official interbank foreign exchange market as the interbank rate stood at N197.47 per dollar at the close of business, yesterday. The naira also depreciated by N45 against the British pound as the parallel market exchange rate rose to N485 per pound, yesterday, from N340 on Friday. Bureaux de Change sources, who confirmed the development to Vanguard, attributed the sharp depreciation to persistent scarcity of the dollar and pound sterling in the market. According to an Abuja-based BDC operator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, “the market is experiencing huge demand for dollars but there is no supply. Even those who have dollars are not willing to sell. The way things are going, the rate might reach N350 per dollar before it stabilises.” This development widened the gap between the interbank rate   and the parallel market rate to N147.53 per dollar from N127.53 per dollar last week. The naira has been on steady decline since January 12, 2016, when the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, stopped weekly dollar sale to BDCs. Prior to this action, the naira traded at N265 per dollar in the parallel market. Consequently, the naira has depreciated by N80 in the parallel market since the CBN took the action. The steady depreciation was also aggravated by inability of the CBN to meet foreign exchange demand. Vanguard investigations reveal that the parallel market is being bedevilled by demand for foreign exchange from importers of the 41 items excluded from the official market by CBN last year as well as importers of items not excluded from the official market.

Fayose:'You're not God,' Governor condemns Buhari for sacking budget DG

Ayodele Fayose

The Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said the removal of the director-general of budget,  Yahaya Gusau, over the controversial 2016 budget is insufficient.

Fayose insists that the President withdraws the budget, saying sacking one person would “national embarrassment generated by the errors of the budget”.
In a statement issued by his special assistant on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka, he said Buhari should adopt a holistic approach than just making someone a scapegoat.
He statement reads:  “Padding of the budget with strange figures, now being denied by ministers was a clear intention to steal in advance.
“Though it is good that the president listened to my call for the punishment of those responsible for the national embarrassment, mere sacking of officers at the budget office will not remove the stain splashed on Nigeria by the shameful budget.
“Sacking one or two persons on this budget scam is just like using some people as cover-up for the national embarrassment caused by the president himself. Even the president himself signed a letter wrongly dated as October 22, 2016 and one is tempted to ask who the president will sack for these avoidable errors.
“Or was it the sacked DG of Budget Office the one who unilaterally put all those bogus figures like N3.8 billion for Aso Villa Clinic, N780 million for website in one single ministry, and others in the budget?
“In my own opinion, it is necessary that those handling the president should bring it to his consciousness that he is not God that cannot make mistakes and this budget scam must be seen as part of the mistakes that President Buhari is capable of making.
“By doing this, the president will be provided with another opportunity to re-present the budget because I wonder how Nigeria can operate on a budget already disowned by notable ministers, including the government’s spokesperson.
“Or what remedy can anyone do to a budget in which 2015 budgetary allocations of an agency was reproduced verbatim? Even N180 million was discovered to have been allocated to NIMET twice."
Following last week's the disclosure of the Minister of health, Professor Isaac Adeoye, that the budget his ministry submitted to the budget office was not the same presented to the National Assembly, Fayose had criticized the Buhari administration, describing the 2016 budget as a national embarrassment.

Law: Arraigned senior lawyer arrives court with 90 SANs

Men of the EFCC on duty
EFCC men on duty

Lawyer, Rickey Tarfa (SAN), who was on Tuesday, February 16, arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), arrived the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, in company of over 90 Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

Tarfa was arraigned before Justice Aishat Opesanwo on a 2-count charge of obstruction of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Mr. Tarfa pleaded not guilty to both counts.
Based on his plea, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepoprayed the court for a trial date and to remand the defendant in custody.
However, Adeniyi Akintola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, who led a team of over 90 Senior Advocates and other lawyers to represent Mr. Tarfa, said they had filed an application for bail which he said was served on the prosecution on the 10th of February, 2016.
In his application for bail, the defence counsel told the court that the defendant went to court voluntarily and that he was granted administrative bail by EFCC on self-recognition.
He said the defendant was a very senior member of the bar with no criminal record. He said there was nothing to show that the defendant would jump bail.
However, prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, urged the court to dismiss the application as the offence was grave. He urged the court to dismiss the application and order for an accelerated hearing.
Justice Opesanwo, in her ruling, granted bail to Mr. Tarfa on self-recognition but ordered that he must not travel out of the country without the permission of the court.
The trial judge bemoaned the number of counsel who were in court for the defendant. She noted that there was no need for such magnitude of support as it amounts to harassment and intimidation of the court.
Soon after the ruling, Mr. Akintola told the court that he had filed an application to quash the charge.
Mr. Rotimi responded that he had not been served. He was subsequently served by the defence counsel in open court.
Justice Opesanwo adjourned the matter to March 14, for hearing of the application to quash the charge while the substantive case was fixed for April 20, 2016 for trial.
Tarfa is accused of willfully obstructing two officers of the EFCC,Moses Awolusi and Sanusi Mohammed from arresting Gnanhooue Sourou and Nazaire Odeste, who were suspected to have committed economic and financial crimes in contravention of Section 38(2) (a) of the EFCC Establishment Act of 2004.
Also, he is alleged to have engaged in improper communication with Justice M. Yunusa of the Federal High Court Lagos between May 11 and June 25, 2015 while the case between the EFCC and two others was pending before the judge.
Count 1:
“That You Rickey Tarfa (SAN) on or about the 5th day of February, 2016 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, willfully obstructed Moses Awolusi and Sanusi Mohammed, authorized officer of Economic and Financial Crime Commission from arresting GNANHOUE SOUROU and NAZAIRE ODESTE who were reasonably suspected to have committed economic and financial crimes by keeping the said suspects in your car between 11.00 hours to 16: 30 hours”
Count 2:
“RICKEY TARFA (SAN) between 11th of May and 25th of June, 2015 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court attempted to pervert the course of justice by communicating with Hon.
